Dennell Kemp Obituary, Death – One of the most competitive and evenly matched seasons in recent memory in the Downriver and Dearborn region of baseball was the 2023 season. Several of the clubs cannibalized one another during the regular season, and the playoffs were no different. Four local teams made it to the regional final round despite the postseason carnage throughout the region and the entire state.
Five of the six local baseball players who were just named all-state by the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association are members of the quartet of regional finalists. Two of these honorees came from the same school, Brownstown Woodhaven, where Evan Langlois and Jacob Wright both received Division 1 all-state recognition. The Warriors reached the D1 state championship game for the second time in program history and for the first time since 2018 thanks in large part to the two.
Langlois was selected for the state’s first team. The senior, who has committed to play baseball at Wayne State, served as Woodhaven’s primary starter this season, tossing 70.1 innings and recording 98 strikeouts in 14 appearances. For the Warriors, Langlois was a minor offensive danger who hit close to.300 with five doubles and 26 runs batted in.
