McArthur Herron Obituary, Death – McArthur Herron, affectionately known as “Mack,” passed away at the age of 49 on September 13, 2023, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born on May 28, 1974, in East St. Louis, Illinois, to Janice Watson and McArthur Golliday. On October 8, 1999, he married Christian Knight in Davidson County, Tennessee.
Mack was a graduate of Centralia High School, Class of 1992, where he excelled in basketball, track, and football, earning recognition for his athletic prowess. His talent earned him a basketball scholarship to Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. He furthered his education at Tennessee State University, Nashville, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. After college, he worked as a teacher’s aide in Nashville, Tennessee.
Throughout his life, Mack displayed a strong work ethic. He served as a mental health technician at Murray Center in Centralia, Illinois, and later worked as a dedicated mail carrier at the Centralia Post Office. Mack was a spiritual and loving individual who always made sure to express his affection with the words “I love you.” His unforgettable voice and zest for life will forever be cherished. His legacy lives on through his selfless organ donation, giving the gift of life to transplant recipients.
His greatest love was for his children, and he emphasized the importance of their bond. Mack is survived by his mother, Janice Watson; his wife, Christina Knight of Nashville, Tennessee; and his children, Sherrod, Shania, Christian, McKeena, Blake, McKyra, Maxwell, and Maliyah. He is also remembered by his siblings, Felicia Tally-Glispie, Terrence Tally, David Herron, and Sandy Golliday, as well as numerous relatives and friends.
Mack was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lucinda Tally; his grandfather, Jimmie Tally; his grandfather, Woodrow Golliday; his father, McArthur Golliday; and his son, Mack Calek Herron. A celebration of Mack’s life will take place on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia, with Pastor Val J. Powe officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Those wishing to pay their respects can contribute to memorials in Mack’s honor to support his mother, Janice Watson, with arrangements and the care of his children.
