Maria de Jesus was born in Villa Aldama, a tiny hamlet outside Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, on January 11, 1934. She is the third of six siblings: Josefina, Jose, Pedro, Alicia, and Mague. She married Ramiro Cantú + and had eight children: Leticia, Ramiro, Luciano, Maria, Oscar, Nancy, Ricardo, and Juan.
Maria de Jesus, known as Mary, was a devout follower of Guadalupe. She ministered to Houston’s Hispanic community at Holy Name Church on the near northside. Machinist Ramiro was her husband. They raised their children with faith, hard labor, and love. Maria was active and dedicated in her parish, serving everyone. She and her spouse were Christian Family Movement members and proud of family. Maria lived for her eight children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her mentorship helped many young ladies join the church. She was wise and funny, inspiring many who sought her advice.
