Laci Matthews Obituary, Death – Laci Renee Matthews, a 16-year-old from Loves Park, Illinois, peacefully departed this world on Saturday, January 14, 2017, due to injuries sustained in a tragic car accident. Laci’s life was a cause for celebration, as she held a special place at the heart of her family. Those who knew her, whether family or friends, were quick to note her sharp wit, delightful sense of humor, and infectious joy. Born on June 27, 2000, in Rockford, Illinois, she was the beloved child of Timothy Matthews and Erin Keller.
Laci was a dedicated student at Harlem High School, where she was a junior. Her commitment to education reflected her aspirations for a future career in the medical field. Laci was not just a bookworm; she was an active participant in school life. She engaged in activities like the annual Powder Puff competition, and she showcased her athletic prowess in basketball and softball.
When it came to comfort food, Laci had a soft spot for a plate of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Original and a generous pile of chocolates. Like any typical teenager, she enjoyed shopping, but her true treasures were her family and friends. Laci’s memory lives on through her loving mother, Erin (Brian Mattis) Keller, her father, Tim (Amy Bankes) Matthews, her sister Lilly Thompson, and her step-sister Beonka Hernandez.
She is also survived by her maternal grandparents, Paula and Kevin Keller, and Jody and Terry Matthews, as well as aunts Erika, Abby, Jill, and Traci, and paternal uncles Ryan, Chuck, Scott, and T.J. Laci shared countless cherished moments with her cousins. Sadly, she was preceded in death by her brother, Isaiah Matthews. A celebration of Laci’s well-lived life will commence with a visitation on Sunday, January 22, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Harlem High School, located at 1 Huskie Drive (off Alpine Road).
Following the visitation, a candlelight service will be held on the powder puff practice field situated on the Harlem High School campus. The funeral service will take place on Monday, January 23, at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park, Illinois, with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens immediately after the service.
