Gertrude A. Resendes Obituary, Death – Born on December 6, 1933, GERTRUDE ANNETTE RESENDES (MMERÉ) passed away peacefully at home on September 17, 2023. Gertrude was the daughter of Eva and Stanley Pellerin, who both passed away. She was the cherished wife of the late George W. Resendes for 52 years prior to his departure in 2006. Gert was the devoted mother of five daughters, including Cheryl and Rick Long of Smithfield, Connie and Jim Davey of North Smithfield, Roberta and Ed Merlino of Smithfield, Rebecca and Bob Thompson of Fort Myers, FL, and Melissa and John Chaput of Smithfield.
Gert was a North Providence High School graduate. She worked as an Inspector at Mine Safety Appliances for the majority of her career until her retirement in 1996. Besides her five daughters, she leaves her 19 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and her little dog Trudy. Her ancestors included Oscar Pellerin, Therese Maione, Gerard Pellerin, Constance Pellerin, her granddaughter Abbey Rose, and her great-granddaughter Margaret Rose.
Mèmére enjoyed creating memories with her family and friends the most. She was a skilled and enthusiastic artisan. She was most talented and enthusiastic about quilting, particularly with the ladies at the Smithfield Senior Center. She enjoyed camping and traveling and would never refuse the opportunity to do so. “Have bag, will travel” was her personal motto. Gert was a strong woman of faith who volunteered at the annual Christmas bazaar, food pantry, and many Social Justice events for her congregation, Saint Michael’s of Georgiaville.
Gert will be greatly missed as a Mother, Mother-in-Law, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, and Friend. Her funeral will take place on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Smithfield. The burial will take place in Johnston’s Highland Memorial Park. Wednesday hours are from 4 to 7 pm.
