Gene Bigsoldier Obituary, Death – Big Soldier, Sr., was born on February 9, 1950, in Pawnee, Oklahoma. His early years were spent southeast of Perkins, Oklahoma, living with his grandparents, Frank and Emma Tohee Kent, alongside his parents, Jacob and Rachel Kent Big Soldier. In 1955, the family relocated to Oklahoma City, where Eugene continued his education.
He attended Emerson Elementary and later graduated from Capitol Hill High School. Eugene’s life took a significant turn when he married Debbie Livingston. Their union blessed them with two children, Gene Jr. and Marcia. As a young father, Eugene embarked on a career path that led him to downtown Scott Chevrolet, where he started as an employee and eventually became the service manager.
Throughout his lifetime, Eugene had an undeniable passion for sports. He once proudly declared, “I’ve played every indoor and outdoor sport,” and it was true. His deep love for baseball was instilled by his own father, who coached him during his early years. This love for the game continued as he played softball, participating in numerous Indian tournaments and league games.
Eugene’s commitment to sports extended to his grandchildren, whom he supported wholeheartedly, attending their games and tournaments not only in Oklahoma but also in neighboring states. Football, with a particular affinity for the OU Sooners, was another of Eugene’s cherished pastimes. He embraced the spirit of rodeos and was an active member of the All Indian Association in the 1970s.
Eugene was deeply connected to his cultural roots and participated enthusiastically in traditional events and activities. His knowledge and dedication made him a reliable figure within his community, often called upon by many. Eugene Big Soldier, Sr., passed away peacefully at his home in Carney, Oklahoma. His funeral service will be held at the Chena Building near Perkins, Oklahoma, at 12:00 noon on Sunday, September 12, 2021. The arrangements are being handled by Strode Funeral Home and Cremation. Eugene’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
