Elizabeth Kramer Obituary, Death – Elizabeth Mitcham, at the age of 94, peacefully passed away in her home on February 10, 2023. She was born in St. Louis, raised in Atlanta, and in 1950, she graduated from Trinity College in Washington, DC. It was at the CIA, while both were working on the French desk, that she crossed paths with Rudd Truax, whom she would later marry in 1954.
Together, they ventured to his extended-family home in Tyringham, MA, nestled on a former Shaker settlement, where she would spend her summers for the next seven decades. Following Rudd’s passing in 1968, Betty decided to pursue further education, enrolling in the School of Social Work at Hunter College. Subsequently, she dedicated 40 years of her life to the field of psychotherapy.
In 1973, Betty married George P. Kramer, with whom she both raised her children and embarked on journeys around the world. Sadly, George passed away in 2007. Betty was actively involved in various organizations throughout her life. She served on the boards of Brooklyn Visiting Nurses Association, Hartley House, and the Austen Riggs Center, where she held the position of president for two terms.
Betty is survived by her children, Alice, Hawley, and Charles Truax; her daughters-in-law, Betsy Tanner, Jane Thrailkill, and Julie Truax; and her beloved grandchildren, Olivia, Naomi, and George. On Saturday, February 25, 2023, friends are invited to pay their respects at the family apartment in New York City between 4 pm and 7 pm.
