Dorothy Shoemaker Obituary, Death – Dorothy J. Shoemaker, a beloved member of the Statesville community, peacefully departed this world on September 14, 2023, at the age of 93. Born on October 18, 1929, in Iredell County, she was the cherished daughter of Troy Garland Shoemaker and Zilpha Mataka (Maker) Sigmon Shoemaker.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husbands, William Moore (Bill) and James Shoemaker, as well as her dear siblings, Bryce Shoemaker, Ray Sigmon, Helen Waugh, Lily Honeycutt, and Lois (Jean) Shoemaker. She found solace and spiritual guidance as a lifelong member of Mount Hermon Lutheran Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted daughter, Sherry M. Combs (Forrest), residing in Statesville, and her adored grandchildren, William Combs (Candy) and Tyler Combs (Jennifer), also of Statesville. Dorothy’s legacy extends to her great-grandchildren, Tyson Combs, Lauren Combs, Cade Combs, Sadie Jo Combs, Thaddeus Combs, and Georgia Combs. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Jim Clanton, and niece Gail Templeton.
Dorothy’s warm embrace and love reached beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of stepchildren Doug Shoemaker (Jane), step-grandchildren Jimmy Shoemaker, and Jeffrey Shoemaker. Her enduring friendship with Roy Lee and Joyce Little remained a testament to her kind spirit. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Dorothy’s life on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Mt. Heron Lutheran Church. A heartfelt funeral service, officiated by Rev. Will Dulin, will commence at 2 p.m. at the church, followed by her burial. Dorothy’s memory will forever shine in the hearts of those she touched throughout her remarkable journey.
