Richard’s love for horses was a defining aspect of his life, and for 45 years, he showed ponies alongside his daughters Helen, Harriet, and Hannah, later passing down this passion to his granddaughter Florence. He was a pillar of support, sharing in their victories and guiding them through their equestrian journeys.
In recent years, Richard found joy in giving back to the showing community, sponsoring events at the BSPS Championships and HOYS. He continued to follow the family’s ponies and small hunters, finding pride and joy in the success of riders and handlers.
The Binks family has achieved many triumphs in the show ring, but Richard always emphasized the friendships forged and the joyous moments shared along the way. His legacy lies not only in the ribbons won but in the bonds of camaraderie and love he nurtured within the equestrian community.
A funeral service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held at 3pm on September 29th at St. Mary’s Church Woodkirk, Dewsbury Road, Dewsbury, WF12 7JL. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Sue Ryder, Wheatfields Hospice, Leeds, to support the compassionate work they do. Following the service, a reception will be hosted at Morley Rugby Club, Scatcherd Lane, Morley, Leeds, LS27 0JJ, where friends and family can gather to honor Richard’s memory.
In memory of Richard Binks, let us celebrate a life well-lived, and may his love for horses, family, and friendship forever inspire us.
With heartfelt sympathy,
