Joyce Moyer Obituary, Death – Joyce Moyer, known affectionately as “Joyce” throughout her life, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2023, after a brief illness. She was born on November 7, 1939, in Jackson, Michigan, to parents Paul Wilson and Cleo (Clouse) Wilson. As the youngest of three children, Joyce’s family eventually relocated to Warren, where she attended high school and found joy in singing and cheerleading.
Joyce’s life took a beautiful turn when she married Stephen Moyer in Hartford City. Together, they lovingly raised their daughter, Trudy. While initially dedicating her time to being a homemaker, Joyce later pursued a career in the office of Hartford City Clerk Treasurer, eventually becoming Deputy Blackford County Treasurer. Not only were Stephen and Joyce devoted to their family, but they were also active members of the Hartford City Elk’s lodge and engaged in numerous bridge clubs.
After retirement, they relocated to West Lafayette to be closer to their daughter Trudy and cherished grandchildren, Bradley Ludwig and Jessica Hathaway. They were avid supporters of Bradley and Jessica’s activities, never missing sporting events, band concerts, or school programs. During winters, the couple embraced the snowbird lifestyle, spending time in Marco Island, Florida. Tragically, Stephen passed away in 2017, and Joyce moved to an apartment in Westminster Village, West Lafayette. There, she continued to stay engaged, participating in bridge clubs, euchre games, and forming deep friendships.
Joyce is survived by her beloved daughter, Trudy, along with her husband, Clinton Todd Guthrie, as well as her cherished grandchildren Bradley Ludwig, Jessica Hathaway, Allison Guthrie, and Megan Moore. Her great-grandchildren, Rhett Hathaway, Autumn Moore, and Aurora Moore, also hold a special place in her legacy. Joyce leaves behind several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jerry Wilson, sister Lois Minnich, and her husband, Stephen. Services to commemorate Joyce’s life were held at Keplinger Funeral Home in Hartford City on September 15, 2023, where friends and family gathered to remember and honor a life filled with love, devotion, and lasting memories.
