Eddie Briggs Obituary, Death – Edward A. “Eddie” Briggs, Jr., aged 58, of Chesapeake, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, and joined the Lord in eternal rest. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Edward A. Briggs, Sr. and Bessie W. Briggs. Eddie was a proud alumnus of Oscar Smith High School and Averett College. He dedicated his career to serving in the Juvenile Court for the City of Chesapeake.
Eddie was also a devout member of Great Bridge Baptist Church, where he contributed his voice to the adult choir and had previously directed the children’s choir. His memory will forever be cherished for his gentle, caring nature and his unwavering willingness to assist others. In his recent years, he found joy in traveling along the East Coast with his beloved wife Kathy.
He shared exhilarating experiences racing go-karts in Margarettsville, North Carolina, with his son Jon, and lovingly handcrafted a baby cradle with his son Tim. Eddie was characterized by his strong work ethic, selflessness, and devout Christian faith, always prioritizing the needs of others above his own. He leaves behind a loving family, including his wife, Kathy Curling Briggs; two devoted sons, Jonathan R. Briggs and his wife Colleen, and Timothy E.
Briggs and his wife Christi; two grandchildren, Jackson Ray Briggs and Hannah Lynn Briggs, who brought immense joy to his life; two sisters, Mary Ann Cahoon and Angela Overbey; and cherished in-laws, Ray and Louise Curling, whom he loved as if they were his own parents. Eddie also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The funeral service honoring Eddie’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Great Bridge Baptist Church, where Reverend Charles L. Moseley will officiate. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
