Alice Gilbert Obituary, Death – On September 18, Ms. Alice Blalock Gilbert, 94, of Bell, Florida, died away quietly at home while surrounded by her family. Robert Coley and Ruth Newman Coley welcomed her into the world on January 15, 1929, in Memphis, Tennessee. She received her degree from Memphis State College, where she was a Sigma Kappa Sorority member. Before retiring, she worked as a teacher in Pinellas County for more than 30 years.
In 1990, Ms. Alice relocated to Gilchrist County, where she attended Trenton United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Spring House Quilt Club and loved to quilt. She belonged to the Gilchrist County Women’s Club as well. Ralph Blalock, her husband of almost 50 years, her husband of 15 years, Will Gilbert, her parents, and her sister Eva Mae Powell predeceased her.
In addition to her son Len (Milli) Blalock and grandchildren John (Tianda) Herrington, Jodie Herrington, Bree (Jordan) Holbrook, and Chase (Alexandra) Gillman, Ms. Alice is also survived by her brother Robert (Betty) Coley of Oakland, Mississippi, as well as a large extended family that includes Lee (Dorothy) Gilbert, Bill Gilbert, Matt (Julie), and caregiver Donna Tooke. The Watson-Milton Funeral Home will host a memorial service for Ms. Alice on Thursday, September 21, at 2:00 p.m. At the funeral home, friends may visit with the family starting at 1:00 PM. She will be buried at the cemetery adjacent to Priscilla Baptist Church.
